The Bosch WAU28PH9GB Bosch i-Dos washing machine boasts two pretty ingenious features that make it really stand out as one of the best washing machines in the market.

The Bosch WAU28PH9GB Bosch i-Dos washing machine boasts two pretty ingenious features that make it really stand out as one of the best washing machines in the market. One is the i-Dos auto-dosing functionality and the other is it’s Wi-Fi connectivity. This machine can hold up to 1.3 litres of detergent and 0.5 litres of conditioner. This means you only need to fill it about every 15 washes, and apart from that you can literally just throw in your clothes and press the start button. I tested this machine for 3 weeks and never had to re-fill the detergent; it would last an average household about a month before running out. The washer automatically adjusts the detergent usage to suit the specific load requirements so you never use too much or too little to achieve an optimum clean. This saves you money whilst being better for your clothes and better for the environment. The Wi-Fi connectivity works in perfect harmony with the I-Dos feature, to enable you to start the wash whilst out so you come home to freshly laundered clothes. I am now back working in the office as lockdown restrictions ease so I tested this out before I left work for the day. It is a brilliant feature as you don’t have a stale wash load and you then have the whole evening to ensure it is dry for the next day.

With a generous 9kg drum capacity, this machine can handle the laundry pile generated by a big family. 9kg machines can wash up to around 45 t-shirts in one load and I managed to wash a king size duvet in it which is great. In general, the larger the drum capacity, the better the wash performance as the fabrics have more space to move around, which makes this a great choice of washing machine. The other benefit of the 9kg drum size is that you need to do less loads, making it one of the most energy efficient washing machines in our 2021 range.

The Bosch i-Dos WAU28PH9GB uses intelligent technology to ensure that the right detergent is used which helps to deliver an optimum clean each time. It is highly programmable and offers a cycle for every possible load requirement. It is worth bearing in mind that the auto-dispensing i-Dos system only adds liquid detergent. As the liquids don’t contain the same bleaching agents as powder detergents, you will need to do a periodic designated drum washing cycle to keep the inside of the machine clean. However, the machine will regularly prompt you to do these. I did notice that the Bosch’s Eco drive brushless motor is super quiet, even when spinning at 1400rpm, which makes it a good washing machine for open plan living. 

Ease of Use 5/5

This Bosch washing machine is truly designed to make life easier. It has a large silver dial that you spin around to choose which of the many programmes you wish to select. It also has touch-sensitive buttons on the LED display which make it easy to adjust the temperature, spin-speed or specific features. It took me a while to familiarise myself with the icons but after that it couldn’t be easier to operate. The door also opens really widely which is great, and I had no bother at all loading my duvet. If you are looking to rent a washing machine, the fact that this washer selects the right amount of detergent and automatically adds it is a genuine game changer in my opinion.
